Lob wins Home Run Derby

NEW CARLISLE - Ten years ago, Adin Newman was posing in front of the Migley Field marquee with all his friends at his 11th birthday party.

Now he stands alone in front of the iconic landmark with the Golden Bat after winning the 2024 Home Run Derby.

Newman outlasted Garrett Curless, 18-17, in the finals to kick off the Friday night festivities at Hometown Days.

Lob grabbed the top seed in the bracket with the top score of 18 in the preliminary round. He hit 61 total home runs on the evening, surpassed only by Curless who belted 63.

For Curless, it was his third consecutive and sixth overall runner-up finish. The Golden Bat remains the sole achievement that has eluded the hometown slugger in his Hall of Fame career.

Defending champion Sam Bull advanced to the bracket with 12 home runs in the preliminaries, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Three different champions over a three-year stretch has not happen since 2017, when Jared Jonkman started his run of six consecutive titles.

In total, 392 home runs were hit by 46 participants in the event.
